Adaptive Re-Use in Architecture @ Hyper-Density City -
Transformation of an Abandoned Carpark into a Creative New Media Centre for Youth @ Shek Pai Wan

By reintroducing new functions and elements, Adaptive Re-use Architectural Design gives new lives to existing architecture in high-density city to create transformation and rebirth of old buildings.

In any built-up cities like Hong Kong, the problem of scarce landuse is commonplace. Therefore, recreating Adaptive Reuse by reintroducing new functions and elements is a MUST to better make use of abandoned architecture.

Although Adaptive Re-Use in Architecture is still a relatively vague and premature topic to be discussed in Hong Kong, considering its advantage as a sustainable and adaptable City Planning approach, Adaptive Re-Use will no doubt be a heated issue of Architectural Development in any populated Asian countries in the near future.

The new Creative Media Centre for Youth is equipped with new functions occupying 38,000 sq. ft with Drop in Area, Video Hall, Souvenir Shop, Multi-Function Rooms, Broadcasting Rooms, Theatres, Lecture Halls; Drama Recording Rooms, Radio-Broadcasting Rooms, Computer Rooms, Cafeteria, Staff Rooms and Consultation Room.
